NCERT books Class 7 vocational education narrow to a single official volume, Kaushal Bodh, and all seven chapters are on this page as free PDFs from ncert.nic.in. The book is a project book: six chapters each build something, and a three-page closing chapter plans the school’s Kaushal Mela.
The PDF alone does not tell you what is inside. This page does — it measures the book chapter by chapter — how long each project runs, how many figures it carries, and what you will make — so a student, parent or teacher can find the chapter that answers their question before opening any file.

The book, measured
Three numbers describe the whole book before any chapter does — and every one of them is reproducible from the directory table on this page.
- 7 chapters across 163 printed pages.
- 0 named syllabus sections — the book is organised as hands-on projects, not numbered theory sections.
- 97 verified numbered figures indexed from the textbook.
- 7 official chapter PDFs linked in the download table above.
These counts come from the NCERT textbook entries this directory holds for Kaushal Bodh — not from the wider CBSE vocational subject scheme, where optional skill and elective subjects are not indexed. Every number is also visible in the directory table on this page, so you can check it yourself.

The counts in the directory above follow three definitions:
- A section is one of NCERT’s own numbered headings. This book prints none — chapters run by project steps and activities instead.
- A figure is a numbered figure indexed from the book, caption and page included.
- A question is an end-of-chapter exercise. This book prints none — learning is by doing projects, not answering questions.
The longest chapter is Chapter 3 at 34 pages — roughly a fifth of the whole book. Tie and dye needs that space because every dye recipe, from beetroot to turmeric, is demonstrated step by step.
The most visual chapter is Chapter 5, which holds 25 of the book’s 97 indexed figures. The puppet project is taught through pictures — almost every puppet type gets its own photo series.
The only chapter with an indexed activity is Chapter 5. That fits the book’s design: every other project already ends in a finished thing, so only the performance chapter needed a separate activity.
The no-exercise reality is uniform: the question count is 0 in every chapter. In-chapter prompts such as “Think and Answer” appear in chapters 1, 2 and 4 instead.
To jump straight to the project you were asked about, use this chapter-to-project map:
| Chapter | What the project produces |
|---|---|
| 1 – Work with Life Forms | A school plant nursery — raised beds, stem cuttings, germination records |
| 2 – Project 2 | A habitat garden for local birds, insects and animals |
| 3 – Work with Machines and Materials | A tie-and-dye swatch file |
| 4 – Project 4 | An AI assistant built with AutoDraw and Teachable Machine |
| 5 – Work in Human Services | A complete puppet show — puppets, stage, music, props |
| 6 – Project 6 | A family health handbook plus a first-aid kit |
| 7 – Planning for Kaushal Mela | A plan for the Kaushal Mela skills fair |
Chapter 1: Work with Life Forms (pp. 1-24)
Chapter 1 is a build-it project: students plan a school plant nursery, laying out the plot, sowing seeds on a raised-bed, raising plants from stem cuttings, and calculating germination percentage, with digital tools for nursery care (Fig 1.11, p. 15; Fig 1.13, p. 17; Fig 1.16, p. 20).
Chapter 2: Project 2 (pp. 25-48)
Project 2 turns the school grounds into a habitat garden: students identify the birds, insects and animals around them using identification apps, mimic the habitats those creatures need, and build bird houses, bird feeders and butterfly houses (Fig 2.17, p. 43, shows the finished garden).
Chapter 3: Work with Machines and Materials (pp. 49-82)
Chapter 3 is the longest in the book at 34 pages and teaches tie and dye: preparing the fabric, the Shibori and Leheriya tying techniques (Fig 3.9, p. 61), natural dyes made with beetroot and turmeric (Fig 3.14, p. 69; Fig 3.15, p. 70), and a swatch file of the samples you make (Fig 3.17, p. 75).
Chapter 4: Project 4 (pp. 83-106)
Project 4 introduces artificial intelligence through a Human vs Machine activity: students try tools like AutoDraw and Teachable Machine, train an image model, and map the pathway for building their own AI assistant (Fig 4.5, p. 91), while the book cautions that excess screen time harms health and students should go out and play (Fig 4.2, p. 86).
Chapter 5: Work in Human Services (pp. 107-137)
Chapter 5 is the most visual chapter — 25 of the book’s 97 figures — and a complete puppet show project: making sock, spoon, ball, vegetable, leaf and cardboard puppets, a papier-mâché head (Fig 5.15, p. 126), a stage from bedsheets, and music and props for the show (Fig 5.1, p. 109; Fig 5.2, p. 110).
Chapter 6: Project 6 (pp. 138-160)
Project 6 builds a Family Health Handbook: students study how diet, sleep, physical fitness and mental well-being shape health, run a first-aid kit workshop (Fig 6.3 and Fig 6.4, p. 147), test drinking water with the \( H_2S \) test and a soakpit, and explore the e-Sanjeevani health portal (Fig 6.10, p. 159).
Chapter 7: Planning for Kaushal Mela (3 pages, closes the book)
The closing 3-page chapter has no figures and plans the Kaushal Mela — the school skills fair where the nursery, habitat, tie-and-dye, AI and puppet projects from this book are shown.

How to study this project book
This book is not read like a theory textbook — it is worked through with hands, plants and materials. The order below follows the book’s own design.
- Chapters 1 and 2 together. Both are outdoor observation-and-care projects — a plant nursery with raised beds and stem cuttings, then a habitat garden with bird houses and butterfly houses — and both use digital tools (nursery records, identification apps).
- Chapter 4 next. The AI project extends the same observation thread — identifying plants with AI, AutoDraw, Teachable Machine — and asks the Human vs Machine question directly.
- Chapters 3, 5 and 6 in any order. These are independent skill projects — tie and dye, puppetry, family health — each self-contained with its own materials list, so do them in whatever order your materials allow.
- Chapter 7 last. The Kaushal Mela plan needs the projects to exist first; it is the book’s closing act, not a topic to study on its own.
- Test yourself by doing. This book has no end-of-chapter exercises. Use the in-chapter “Think and Answer” prompts in chapters 1, 2 and 4, and judge your work by whether each project’s output is finished.
One caution: textbook contents and the examinable syllabus are not always identical — check the current official syllabus for what is assessed.

Frequently asked questions
How many chapters are in the Class 7 Vocational Education NCERT book?
Seven. Six project chapters run from page 1 to page 160 — plant nursery, habitat garden, tie and dye, AI, puppetry, and family health — followed by a three-page closing chapter that plans the Kaushal Mela. The directory table above lists all seven with their page ranges.
Is the Class 7 Vocational Education book PDF official and free?
Yes. Every PDF on this page is NCERT’s own file hosted on ncert.nic.in, one per chapter (gekb101–gekb107), and downloading needs no registration or login. The links in the download table go straight to those official files.
Which chapter covers plant nursery and gardening?
Chapter 1 (Work with Life Forms, pp. 1-24) is the plant nursery project — raised beds, stem cuttings and germination percentage. Chapter 2 (Project 2, pp. 25-48) then turns the same grounds into a habitat garden with bird houses and butterfly houses.
Which chapter teaches AI and machine learning tools?
Chapter 4 (Project 4, pp. 83-106) covers artificial intelligence through the Human vs Machine activity. Students try AutoDraw and Teachable Machine, train a simple image model, and map the path to building an AI assistant.
Where can I find exercise solutions for this book?
There are none to find — this book prints no end-of-chapter exercises, so no solutions exist. Learning is checked by completing each project, and by the “Think and Answer” prompts inside chapters 1, 2 and 4.
