The chemistry 12th textbook PDF you need depends on which chapter your teacher set: for the 2026-27 session, NCERT prints Class 12 Chemistry as two books — Chemistry Part I (Chapters 1–5) and Chemistry Part II (Chapters 6–10) — and both official PDFs are linked below.
The split confuses students because chapter numbers run 1–10 continuously across the two books. “Chapter 8” sounds like it could be anywhere, but it is always in Part II, and “Chapter 2” is always in Part I. The books table below and the chapter map further down show where every chapter sits, so you know which file to open before you download anything.

How to choose the right CBSE Class 12 Chemistry book
Three quick ways to tell which of the two books you need — all faster than opening the wrong PDF.
- By chapter number. Chapter numbers run continuously across both books: Chapters 1–5 sit in Chemistry Part I and Chapters 6–10 in Chemistry Part II. The chapter number alone tells you which book to open — Chapter 4 is Part I, Chapter 9 is Part II.
- By topic. Part I carries the physical and inorganic chapters: solutions, electrochemistry, chemical kinetics, the d- and f-block elements and coordination chemistry. Part II carries the organic and biomolecules chapters: haloalkanes and haloarenes, alcohols, phenols and ethers, aldehydes, ketones and carboxylic acids, amines and carbohydrates.
- By what the teacher called it. NCERT names the books Chemistry Part I and Chemistry Part II — not Volume 1 and 2, not Organic and Physical. If the homework says “Part II”, Chapter 6 is the first chapter in that book.
The common mistake is assuming each book restarts numbering at Chapter 1. It does not — the ten chapters run straight across the two books, so “Chapter 8” is the third chapter of Part II, not the eighth chapter of either book alone.
Check a downloaded file by its code. The official PDF file codes lech101–lech105 belong to Part I and lech201–lech205 to Part II. A file named lech204.pdf is Part II, Chapter 9 (Structure of Amines) — no need to open it to find out.
One caution before exams: textbook contents and the examinable syllabus are not always identical. A chapter being printed in the textbook is not proof that every part of it is examinable — CBSE sets the examinable syllabus separately, so check the current official CBSE syllabus for your session.
