The NCERT Books Class 6 Vocational Education — the official textbook called Kaushal Bodh — runs six project chapters across 152 printed pages, and every chapter PDF is on this page. Each project is a separate official file on ncert.nic.in, numbered fekb101 to fekb106, free to open without any login.
The PDF alone does not tell you what is inside. This page adds per-chapter counts of the book’s 70 indexed figures, the chapters’ own titled parts, and the honest shape of this book: six hands-on projects rather than six theory chapters, and none of them ends with an exercise question set.

The Kaushal Bodh book, measured
Every number below is rendered from the textbook entries on this page, and you can count them in the tables that follow.
- 6 chapters — each a separate official PDF, fekb101 to fekb106
- 152 printed pages across the six project files
- 0 named syllabus sections — the book runs on projects, activities and titled steps, not numbered sections
- 70 verified numbered figures indexed from the textbook
- 1 numbered activity, inside Chapter 5
- 0 end-of-chapter question sets — prompts such as Think and Answer close the projects instead (Chapters 2, 4 and 5)
These counts come from the NCERT textbook entries this directory indexes, not from the CBSE subject scheme. The book is deliberately project-based: a student reads a short topic, follows an activity, and produces something — a seedbed, a register, a model, a game, a display or a dish.
What is inside each chapter
The directory below carries the per-chapter counts.
| Ch. | Chapter | Sections | Activities | Figures | Questions |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Work with | — | — | 16 | — |
| 2 | Project 2 | — | — | 7 | — |
| 3 | Work with Machines and Materials | — | — | 11 | — |
| 4 | Project 4 | — | — | 12 | — |
| 5 | Project 5 | — | 1 | 17 | — |
| 6 | Project 6 | — | — | 7 | — |
A section is one of NCERT’s numbered headings — this book prints none, hence the zeros. A figure is a numbered figure indexed from the textbook. A question is an end-of-chapter exercise — this book has none, because its chapters close with activities and prompts instead. The topic lists below keep the book’s own titles.
Chapter 1: Work with (pp. 1-33)
Kitchen gardening — this opening project takes a beginner from a farm or nursery visit to sowing seeds, planting seedlings, making a fence, caring for plants and harvesting, with a closing section on planning and designing a smart kitchen garden using artificial intelligence. It suits any Class 6 student who wants to grow food and keep a simple growth record.

Chapter 2: Project 2 (pp. 34-54)
Biodiversity observation — this project trains students to look closely at the living things around them — crop, fruit, fodder and weed plants plus pests — and record what they see in a biodiversity register, using a magnifying lens and checking findings with experts and community members. It is for students building a local biodiversity record.
- Terms used in the biodiversity register
- Activity 1: What is around us?
- I. Observation of biodiversity in crop plants
- II. Observation of biodiversity in fruit plants
- III. Observation of biodiversity in fodder plants
- IV. Observation of biodiversity in weed plants

- Think and Answer
With 7 indexed figures over 21 pages it is one of the shorter chapters, and its closing Think and Answer prompt makes a good self-check.
Chapter 3: Work with Machines and Materials (pp. 55-80)
Simple machines and maker skills — this project introduces the inclined plane, pulley and lever, then uses them to build working toys from waste materials — a catapult, robotic arm, propeller boat, rubber band car, air balloon car and windmill — alongside bicycle maintenance and internet safety. It suits students who learn by making things with their hands.
- Project 3
- Maker Skills
- Ancient architecture
- For making toys from trash using simple machines
- For learning about simple machines in a bicycle
- Activity 1: Simple machines in our surroundings
- Learning on the Internet
- Internet safety
- Working Model of Catapult
- Working Model of Robotic Arm
With 11 indexed figures in 26 pages, every model build here has its own figure sequence — the catapult (Fig. 3.4), robotic arm (Fig. 3.5), propeller boat (Fig. 3.6), rubber band car (Fig. 3.7), air balloon car (Fig. 3.8), windmill (Fig. 3.9) and the bicycle (Fig. 3.10, p. 73).
Chapter 4: Project 4 (pp. 81-102)
Scratch coding and game design — this is the book’s coding chapter: students design a game on paper, create a Scratch account, load sprites and backgrounds, snap code blocks together, then finish with animation storyboards and a Pen-extension exploration. It is for students meeting visual programming for the first time.
- Animation and Games
- Activity 1: Game design
- Creating an account on Scratch
- Creating your own images using AI!
- Think and Answer
- Take Care Of Your Mental And Physical Health
With 12 indexed figures — two of them showing the Scratch window (Figs. 4.2 and 4.3, p. 82) — the chapter closes with a Think and Answer prompt and a reminder to take care of mental and physical health.
Chapter 5: Project 5 (pp. 103-124)
Heritage and museum display — this project takes students into museums, physically or through a virtual tour, to study exhibits such as the Dholavira gate room and tribal museums, then collect, identify and display artefacts in a school museum, using Google Lens and AI translation for old documents. It is for students preparing a school museum display.
- Activity 1: Visiting a museum
- Virtual Museum Tour
- Using Google Lens
- Reading or translating old documents
- Translating your own presentation
- Learning from experts
- Learning from visitors
- Think and Answer
It is the only chapter with a numbered activity (Activity 1: Visiting a museum) and carries the book’s largest figure set — 17 figures in 22 pages.
Chapter 6: Project 6 (pp. 125-152)
No-fire cooking — the final project teaches students to read recipes, weigh ingredients, prepare buttermilk, jaljeera, sprouts, lemonade, mint chutney and sandwiches, present dishes well, and serve them at a food Mela, while learning about nutrition and kitchen waste segregation. It is for students working as a kitchen team.
- Cooking without Fire
- Nutritional Value of Food
- Activity 1: Reading recipes
- Dish Presentation
- Buttermilk
- Jaljeera
- Sprouts
- Lemonade
- Mint Chutney
- Sandwich
With 7 indexed figures over 28 pages it is the book’s most text-heavy project, covering food weighing (Fig. 6.3, p. 140), waste segregation (Fig. 6.4) and final tasting (Fig. 6.7) before the food Mela.

How to use this book: the project order that works
The six projects build a sequence: observe plants (Ch 1) → record biodiversity (Ch 2) → make with tools and simple machines (Ch 3) → code games in Scratch (Ch 4) → research and display heritage (Ch 5) → cook and serve food (Ch 6).
Do Chapter 1 before Chapter 3, because the tool and safety habits are established there first. Do Chapter 4 before Chapter 5, because the game-design planning skill transfers to museum-display planning.
One-evening tip: the figure-heavy chapters — 5 with 17 figures, 3 with 11 — revise fastest with the PDF open. Since there are no end-of-chapter question banks, self-test by answering the Think and Answer prompts in your own words.
Each project’s hands-on deliverable and the skill it builds:
| Project | What you produce | Skill it builds |
|---|---|---|
| Ch 1 (pp. 1-33) | a planted kitchen bed and a growth record | observing plants, using garden tools, staying safe |
| Ch 2 (pp. 34-54) | a biodiversity register of local species | recording observations, using a magnifying lens, asking experts |
| Ch 3 (pp. 55-80) | six working models from waste | using simple machines, reading build steps, internet safety |
| Ch 4 (pp. 81-102) | a Scratch game and an animation storyboard | visual programming, game design, balanced screen time |
| Ch 5 (pp. 103-124) | a school museum display of artefacts | researching objects, documenting, presenting to visitors |
| Ch 6 (pp. 125-152) | a cooked dish served at the food Mela | reading recipes, kitchen hygiene, teamwork, waste segregation |
