NCERT Class 11 Accountancy Book Accountancy II: Chapters

The NCERT Class 11 Accountancy Book Accountancy II is the second volume of the Class 11 Accountancy textbook, holding the two Financial Statements chapters.

Both official PDFs are linked on this page, and so is a measured breakdown of the book that the PDF alone does not give you: every named section with its page, a topic lookup table, and an honest reading order. The counts come from the NCERT textbook editions on this page, not from a syllabus guess.

Ch. Chapter Pages Official PDF
1 Financial Statements – I 41 PDF
2 Financial Statements – II 71 PDF

The book, measured: 2 chapters, 112 pages, 18 named sections

The verified headline numbers for this volume, straight from the two chapters on this page:

  • 2 chapters, both covered on this page
  • 2 verified official PDFs, both linked above
  • 112 printed pages, running from p. 277 to p. 388
  • 18 named sections, each located by page in the directory below
  • 0 activities indexed inside the text

Before the full directory, here is what the two chapters build.

Chapter Builds Emphasis
Ch 1 — Financial Statements – I The trading account, profit and loss statement and balance sheet, built from a trial balance. Capital vs revenue, closing entries, and marshalling of assets and liabilities.
Ch 2 — Financial Statements – II Adjustments that refine those same statements. Closing stock, outstanding and prepaid items, accrued income, income received in advance, and depreciation.

Chapter 1 gives you the three statements; Chapter 2 adjusts them. That is why the reading order later on this page starts with Chapter 1, and why the heavier reading load sits in the second chapter.

What’s inside each chapter, measured from the book

The directory below is rendered from each chapter’s own index data, so every number can be checked against the PDF. In this index, a section is one of NCERT’s numbered headings, an activity is a classroom exercise printed inside the text, and a question is an end-of-chapter exercise.

Ch. Chapter Sections Activities Figures Questions
1 Financial Statements – I 11
2 Financial Statements – II 7 10

One caveat before the chapter notes: Chapter 1’s question extraction is flagged for review, so its exercise count is not published here. Do not use question counts to compare the two chapters; only Chapter 2’s count was extracted cleanly.

One more reading tip: the section numbers mark the chapter — 8.x belongs to Chapter 1, 9.x to Chapter 2. Chapter 1 also uses sub-sections such as 8.2.1 and 8.4.4, which is why its section count is higher than Chapter 2’s despite fewer pages.

Chapter 1: Financial Statements – I (pp. 277-317)

This is the chapter where the three financial statements first take shape. It opens with the stakeholders who read accounting information, sets out the capital versus revenue distinction, works through closing entries, defines gross profit, net profit and operating profit, and assembles the balance sheet with its marshalling rules.

Read it before Chapter 2, because the adjustments there are applied to the statements built here.

The 11 named sections, in the order the book prints them:

  1. Stakeholders and their Information Requirements (sec. 8.1, p. 277)
  2. Distinction between Capital and Revenue (sec. 8.2, p. 279)
  3. Expenditure (sec. 8.2.1, p. 279)
  4. Closing Entries (sec. 8.4.2, p. 285)
  5. Concept of Gross Profit and Net Profit (sec. 8.4.3, p. 288)
  6. Cost of Goods Sold and Closing Stock-Trading Account Revisited (sec. 8.4.4, p. 293)
  7. Operating Profit (EBIT) (sec. 8.5, p. 297)
  8. Balance Sheet (sec. 8.6, p. 299)
  9. Preparing Balance Sheet (sec. 8.6.1, p. 300)
  10. Marshalling and Grouping of Assets and Liabilities (sec. 8.6.3, p. 302)
  11. Opening Entry (sec. 8.7, p. 308)

The chapter runs 41 pages with 11 named sections and no activities; its exercise count is not published because the extraction is under review.

Chapter 2: Financial Statements – II (pp. 318-388)

Chapter 2 adjusts the statements built in Chapter 1 for items that do not fit neatly into one accounting period: stock that remains unsold, expenses still owing or paid ahead, income earned but not yet received, and the wearing out of assets. Each of the seven sections teaches one recognisable adjustment pattern.

The 7 named sections, in order:

  1. Need for Adjustments (sec. 9.1, p. 318)
  2. Closing Stock (sec. 9.2, p. 320)
  3. Outstanding Expenses (sec. 9.3, p. 322)
  4. Prepaid Expenses (sec. 9.4, p. 323)
  5. Accrued Income (sec. 9.5, p. 325)
  6. Income Received in Advance (sec. 9.6, p. 327)
  7. Depreciation (sec. 9.7, p. 328)

At 71 pages this is where the heavier reading load of the volume sits — 7 named sections, no activities, and 10 end-of-chapter exercise questions extracted cleanly.

How to use this book for revision

The two chapters are a sequence, not a pair of options. This order follows how the book itself builds the material.

  1. Start with Chapter 1 to see the structure. Financial Statements – I shows how the trading account, profit and loss statement and balance sheet are built from a trial balance — the adjustments in Chapter 2 attach to this structure.
  2. Then learn Chapter 2’s adjustment patterns. Each of the seven sections is one entry pattern; learn them one at a time from p. 318 (need for adjustments) to p. 328 (depreciation).
  3. Use the topic lookup table above to target weak spots. If a question mentions outstanding expenses, jump to section 9.3 instead of re-reading the chapter.
  4. Attempt Chapter 2’s 10 end-of-chapter questions after both chapters. They sit at the end of the volume and work best as a combined check once the adjustments are fresh.
  5. Check the current official syllabus. Textbook contents and the examinable syllabus are not always identical, so confirm which sections are examinable before assuming everything is tested.
