The 12th maths book: NCERT Class 12 Maths Part 1 & Part 2

The 12th maths book from NCERT is not one book but two: Mathematics Part I and Mathematics Part II. Both volumes are covered below, and this page tells you which one holds the chapter you are looking for.

The split matters because the chapters are numbered continuously: chapters 1 to 6 sit in Part I, and chapters 7 to 13 sit in Part II. A chapter number or name alone is enough to pick the volume, without scanning one long merged chapter list and guessing.

Together the two volumes run to 13 chapters across 400 printed pages, with 100 named syllabus sections and 9 verified numbered figures indexed from the textbook.

The two Class 12 Maths books at a glance

Both volumes are below — what each contains, how long it runs, and where its own page is.

Which Class 12 Maths book do you need?

Choose the volume by the simplest clue you have:

  • By chapter number: chapters 1 to 6 are in Part I, and chapters 7 to 13 are in Part II.
  • By chapter name: Matrices (Chapter 3) and Continuity and Differentiability (Chapter 5) are in Part I; Integrals (Chapter 7) and Probability (Chapter 13) are in Part II.
  • By what the teacher called it: the volumes are printed as ‘Part I’ and ‘Part II’, so a teacher who says ‘maths part 1’ means the volume holding chapters 1 to 6.

Two mistakes cost time. Do not judge a volume by its thickness: Part II contains the longest single chapter of the set, Integrals (67 PDF pages), while Part I holds much of the introductory calculus.

Also do not assume Part I is ‘term 1’ and Part II is ‘term 2’. The two-volume split is NCERT’s publishing arrangement, not a division of the exam year; the syllabus for the board examination is set by CBSE.

Match a Class 12 Maths chapter name to its book

If the homework names the chapter, the translation is fast: Matrices is Chapter 3 — Part I, Differential Equations is Chapter 9 — Part II, and Three Dimensional Geometry is Chapter 11 — Part II. The rule underneath all of it is the same: 1-6 is Part I, 7-13 is Part II.

There is a shortcut in the official PDF codes: the chapter files run lemh101–lemh106 for Part I and lemh201–lemh207 for Part II, so a lemh2xx code means Part II.

The Class 12 Maths chapter list, and which book holds it

Chapter names only — the per-chapter detail lives on each book’s page.

Part I

  • Relations and Functions
  • Inverse Trigonometric Functions
  • Matrices
  • Determinants
  • Continuity and Differentiability
  • Application of Derivatives

Part II

  • Integrals
  • Application of Integrals
  • Differential Equations
  • Vector Algebra
  • Three Dimensional Geometry
  • Linear Programming
  • Probability

Every chapter is one click away on its book’s page, linked from the table above.

What each book teaches

Mathematics Part I builds the tools. It opens with relations and functions and inverse trigonometric functions, then develops the matrix and determinant machinery, and finishes with the calculus ladder: continuity, differentiability and applying derivatives to rate of change and maxima-minima problems. A reader stuck on differentiation lives here.

Mathematics Part II carries integration forward — integrals, area under simple curves and differential equations — then moves to vector algebra, three dimensional geometry, linear programming and probability up to conditional probability and Bayes’ theorem. The long-answer scenes of integration, vectors and probability concentrate here.

Both volumes are needed for Class 12. The split is about length and print size, not about one volume being optional.

Class 12 Maths NCERT book PDF download — free, in English and Hindi

NCERT hosts the Class 12 Mathematics textbook on its official portal as separate chapter files. The chapter PDFs run lemh101–lemh106 for Part I and lemh201–lemh207 for Part II, so a single ‘book PDF’ download is really 13 chapter files.

Start from the official NCERT textbook portal — it offers free chapter-wise PDFs of both volumes. For example, Chapter 1 (Relations and Functions) is published at https://ncert.nic.in/textbook/pdf/lemh101.pdf, the opening file of Part I.

NCERT also publishes both parts in Hindi, and its official portal lists those Hindi editions. This page’s index covers the English-medium editions, so the PDF codes above point to English files.

Class 12 Maths NCERT book price: what two volumes cost

NCERT prints Class 12 Mathematics as two separate volumes, and each is sold separately — a complete set means buying both. The printed price (MRP) appears on each volume’s cover.

The reliable zero-cost option is the official PDF from ncert.nic.in, linked in the section above. For parents: two books, both required, prices printed on the covers, official PDFs free.

Sources and data verification

  • Where the figures come from: the NCERT Class 12 Mathematics textbook entries this directory indexes — Mathematics Part I and Part II, official editions on ncert.nic.in, chapter PDFs lemh101–lemh207.
  • What the dataset covers, and what it does not: 13 chapters with per-chapter named sections, exercise questions and verified numbered figures. It does not include textbook tables or raw image objects, and it indexes the English-medium editions. Printed page numbers for the bound volumes are not available here, so length is measured in PDF pages — Part I totals 186 and Part II totals 214.
  • Academic session: this listing is maintained for the 2026-27 academic session.
  • Which authority settles what: NCERT settles textbooks, editions, titles and PDFs; CBSE settles the curriculum, syllabus and examinations. Textbook contents and the examinable syllabus are not always identical — check the current official syllabus.

Combined NCERT index totals: 13 chapters, 400 pages, 100 named syllabus sections, 704 exercise questions and 9 verified numbered figures across the two books.

12th maths book FAQs: volumes, chapter placement and free PDFs

How many books are there in the NCERT Class 12 Maths set?

Two: Mathematics Part I (chapters 1-6) and Mathematics Part II (chapters 7-13). Both volumes are required.

Which book has Matrices — and which book has Integrals?

Matrices is Chapter 3, so it is in Part I. Integrals is Chapter 7, so it is in Part II. Probability is Chapter 13, also in Part II.

Are the Class 12 maths book PDFs official and free?

Yes. NCERT publishes the chapter PDFs on its official portal at ncert.nic.in/textbook.php, and they can be downloaded free. The files run from lemh101 to lemh207.

Is ’12th maths 1 textbook pdf’ the same as the NCERT Part I book?

Not by itself. The ‘Maths 1 / Maths 2′ naming commonly comes from state-board syllabi, such as the Maharashtra HSC split, and it is not the same as NCERT’s Part I / Part II. The NCERT volumes are officially titled Mathematics Part I and Mathematics Part II. A search for ’12th business maths’ is a different subject, not this set.

Is the Class 12 Maths textbook available in Hindi?

Yes. NCERT publishes both parts in Hindi, and the official portal lists those Hindi editions. This page’s index covers the English-medium editions, so its PDF codes point to the English files.

Official source: download the NCERT textbook free from ncert.nic.in.
