The 12th geography book you need is one of three. NCERT prints Class 12 Geography as three separate textbooks, and all three are linked below with their chapter counts, printed pages and official PDFs. This listing reflects the NCERT editions in use for the 2025-26 session.
The split matters because each book restarts its own chapter numbering at Chapter 1. A chapter number alone never tells you which book to open: “Chapter 7” exists in both of the first two books, and both call it “Transport and Communication”. The table below settles the choice in one glance.

The third route is by chapter number, and this is where the three-book split traps people. Because each volume is bound and paginated separately, all three books begin at Chapter 1. “Chapter 7” is therefore ambiguous: book 1 and book 2 both have a Chapter 7, and the titles match.

A title that looks unique can still mislead. “Mineral and Energy Resources”, for example, is Chapter 5 of India: People and Economy — a question on Indian minerals or energy sends you to book 2, not to the Fundamentals book. When in doubt: if the topic names India, it is book 2; if it names data or maps, it is book 3.
Class 12 Geography NCERT PDFs: what each book covers
Fundamentals of Human Geography is the world-scale volume. It opens with “Human Geography” itself (NCERT, pp. 1-6), then moves through world population, human development and the economic-activity sequence — primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary — before closing with transport, communication and international trade. If your question is about a pattern that is not specifically Indian, this is the book.
India: People and Economy is the India-scale volume. Its chapters run from India’s population and settlements through land, water and mineral-energy resources, planning for sustainable development, transport and communication, international trade, and a closing chapter on selected environmental issues. An “India” question — a map of India, an Indian resource, an Indian port — belongs here.
Practical Work in Geography Part II is the practical-work component, and the book students most often miss because the subject is usually talked about as two books. It covers where data comes from, data processing, graphical representation of data and spatial information technology (GIS), running from “Data — Its Source and Compilation” (NCERT, pp. 1-12) to “Spatial Information Technology” (NCERT, pp. 46-64).
A question that asks you to draw a graph, construct an isopleth or interpret a map comes from this book.
